The Pawn Shoplifters (10:00PM)

The Pawnshop Lifters have arrived and they brought a bottle of whiskey, a couple of shot glasses and all the attitude that only a mixture of old time rock and roll and outlaw country could create. With the release of the follow up to the incredible 5 song ep, Whiskey Lane, The pawnshop lifters have provided us with the 1st candidate for the 2009 album of the year, Rifle and Flask. There is not one filler on this 11 song collection of outlaws, swamps, shot guns, lost love, bad luck and gallons of whiskey. Lead singer and guitarist Wendell Johnson gives you the feeling that you are out in the middle of the woods with your hound dog and a XXX jug of moonshine. He is the new voice of the good old boy club and he invites you to be a part of it. All the while, bassist Jeff Pierce is laying down a driving bottom which directs you on this journey through rural America with drummer Allen Feider providing so much power with those sticks, you know these boys have your back during your stay in their world. The boys spilt the cd into 2 parts. The Rifle part being covered with the 1st 5 tracks while the remaining 6 tracks are their music al version of passing the Flask. If you like your music with some deep south attitude that tells you stories about life far away from the noise and the lights of the big city. Do yourself a favor and pick up Rifle and Flask, then call your buddies over, get a fire going, open up that bottle of jack and make sure that your don’t have to work the next day. Stand Out Tracks: Shameless Agitated Blues, THBM, One False Move

Soulgrass Rebellion With Special Guests Folk Soul Revival (10:00PM)

Soulgrass Rebellion is about a family of friends making music, making people dance, feeling good. The band is fronted by soulful singer/songwriter/guitarist Oso Rey, who moved to Asheville in 2006 from southern California where he shared the stage with giants like Sublime, Leftover Salmon, and No Doubt. The all-star group includes heavy-hitters who have played with several of the Southeast's top bands—Silas Durocher (Laura Reed and Deep Pocket, David Earl and the Plowshares, Silas Durocher and Everybody Knows) on electric guitar, Brian Jones (the Afromotive, Supple, Ian Thomas) on drum set, and Justin Powell (the Indigo Girls, the Donna Hopkins Band, and Geoff Achison) on upright bass.
After playing as a duo for about a year, Rey and Durocher teamed up with local heroes David Earl Tomlinson and Pierce Edens to start the Lexington Ave. Living Room series, a singer/songwriter showcase at Bobo Gallery. The songwriters all began sitting in on each other's tunes, and soon guest musicians became a regular event—enter Jones and Powell. The four musicians who would become Soulgrass Rebellion hit it off instantly at these jams and quickly realized there was something serious happening.
Now the band is quickly building fans with their high-energy shows. They'll be coming to a venue near you soon to recruit you to the rebellion.

Electric Chameleon (10:00PM)

Electric Chameleon is a rare animal indeed. The funky rhythm section is so tight that it belongs in a jam band, while its nastier blues-rock riffs suggest a heavier genre. The smooth, smoky vocals play as though over nu-jazz, yet swing with a polish of pop. It’s hard to imagine it could mix so much together and still find an identity, yet the music is so filled with catchy hooks and original energy that it shines making Electric Chameleon the band to be on the look out for.

The Honey Island Swamp Band (8:00PM)

We started the Honey Island Swamp Band in the fall of 2005 after Hurricane Katrina left us high and dry but far from home in San Francisco. We’d worked together in New Orleans bands for years, but with no prospects of getting home any time soon, we thought we’d better cook up something new, and quick. A few days later we’d put together a song list, landed a weekly gig, and settled in to share a little taste of southern culture with our new west coast neighbors. Thanks to those good folks in California, we made it through the lean times, had ourselves a good time, and made it back home in what seems like hardly no time at all. We even got a little record out of the deal. We hope you’ll enjoy listening to the Honey Island Swamp Band as much as we love playing in it. Come on out and see us soon!

Villanova (9:00PM)

Villanova produces a universal sound with a demographic that surpasses age, gender, and race. The live show is an electrifying mix of musical virtuosity and playing passionately written original songs. Brian Conner, lead singer/songwriter and guitarist for Villanova has perfected a unique style of soulful rock. Conner’s’ guitar skill is a passionate combination of technical jazz-fusion and Jimi Hendrix inspired licks which beautifully blend with the tight-pocket powerhouse of bass player Bobby Dredd and drummer Jeremy Finesse Roberson. Dredd’s Victor Wooten/Larry Graham-esque prominent string slap style is proof that he is a graduate of the old school of funk. Roberson (drummer and backing vocals) has an exquisite ability to maintain precision and timing while he adapts his style to any genre of music. His unique smooth style has earned him, numerous accolades and led him to be known by musical peers and fans alike as none other than “Mr. Finesse”. Walking musical encyclopedia DJ Able One brings samples, cuts, beats, and keys to the quartet to complete the colorful canvas. He’s a mad scientist that will blow you away with his turntable trickery and masterful music manipulation. Before joining the soulful rock of Villanova, Able produced and recorded many local and regional hip hop artists. With a tight and precise rhythm section, sincere soulful vocals, and the collaboration of scratches and samples, Villanova creates an unusual blend of danceable jams, hard driving rock songs, and soulfully written ballads. Villanova has heavy emphasis on melody, singing, and lyrics. The songs are radio friendly and meant to be rocked live. Villanova strives to produce music that touches people’s hearts and captures a respectable fan base of music lovers.

Emancipator W/Chronicles Of The Landsquid (10:00PM)
Emancipator// 1320 Records// Portland, OR
Emancipator’s intricate, artful beats have earned him the kind of organic success 99% of artists only dream about. His debut album “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough,” was released only in Japan, but it filtered out into the rest of the world thanks to determined fans who got the music before the label did, ordered the expensive import or donated money in exchange for mp3s. But in September 2009, the album will be released September 8th 2009 in the U.S. on STS9’s own 1320 Records. The re-release is timed with Emancipator’s first North American tour, 10 performances across the country including three stops with Pretty Lights in the southeastern U.S and appearances at Trinumeral Festival in Asheville and Symbiosis Gathering in Yosemite. “Emancipator’s debut album ‘Soon It Will Be Cold Enough’ beautifully mixes hip hop beats with guitar feedback and a delicate piano melody,” Rolling Stone says. “You can feel his energy when he performs. His face lights up and you can see how much he enjoys the music.” Other reviews call the music “chill but captivating,” “fresh, clean production and sweet melodies,” and “damn cool.” Because it’s impossible to pin Emancipator to a specific genre, his fans struggle to describe the music: “Um, it’s really pretty, but like with SICK beats.”

Crobar Cane (10:00PM)
CROBAR CANE, a Roanoke, VA based rock band is ready with their new cd for a long and fruitful career. Their unique yet reminiscent sound is present on their debut cd release due out June 3rd 2005. Their members: Jason Weeks - guitars, Adam Rutledge -guitars and vocals, Jay Gladden - bass guitar, Brett Fulghum -drums and vocals, and Roger Rutledge - piano, organ and vocals, have been playing together since 2003 in their other band Southbound. "Southbound is a lot of fun and we love playing cover tunes but we felt it was time for us to take the next step and really push our original material, so we decided to create CROBAR CANE." says singer/guitarist Adam Rutledge. The story behind the name, CROBAR CANE is unique and CROBAR CANE hopes that it symbolizes the band's future. "My grandfather who is in his late eighties still goes to work everyday at Rutledge Paint and Body Service, and one day I happened to stop by and noticed that he was walking around with a crowbar as his cane, and that just really had a profound affect on me. At that time we were still looking for new band names and it hit me that Crowbar Cane would be a great name. So we dropped the "w" and here we are. I hope this band can last long enough for us to be walking around using crowbar cane's one day." says Rutledge

The Band Of Heathens (10:00PM)

The Band of Heathens’ last three releases have carried the band to playing 250+ shows a year for their loyal fan base, as well as a coveted taping for this year’s 35th Anniversary season of the Austin City Limits television program. Their last album hit No. 1 on the Americana Music Association Radio chart and wound up at No. 8 on the AMA’s Top 100 Albums of 2008 list. That album also earned the band an AMA Honors & Awards nomination for 2009 New Emerging Artist of the Year.
